10 Design Highlights From Golden Globes Parties and Suites

Alesandra Dubin
January 17, 2011

The Golden Globes ceremony brings on its heels some of the most design-minded and detail-oriented Los Angeles events of the year. So while much commotion took place outside on the red carpets this weekend, inside the events were top design and decor ideas, from clean-looking pop-up beauty salons to whimsical sculptures made from chocolate. Here's one stylish look from each of 10 parties and events around town during this past weekend.

At L'Oréal's beauty suite at the Four Seasons, the Visionary Group built out a hotel suite to feel like a luxe salon experience, replacing everything in the existing space, including carpet, wallpaper, and chandeliers. Guests stopped by the sleek space for hair and nail services.

Also at the Four Seasons, In Style presented its beauty lounge, where Caravents again produced and designed a luxury look apropos of the Globes, by mixing a palette of platinum, white, and blush with silk dupioni, suede, and chrome textures with crystal details. R. Jack Balthazar provided the flowers and decor.

Within Access Hollywood's fifth annual “Stuff You Must…” lounge at the Sofitel, produced by On 3 Productions, Jes Gordon Proper Fun designed a salon-style space for CVS, with pink and orange callas, decorative rocks scattered among the products, and logos displayed in mirrored frames. The clean, simple look included white furniture and silver flooring, and it infused the room with bright, vibrant colors for a feminine, yet cozy feel.

New on the scene this year was a party hosted by all Fox entities on the rooftop of the former Robinsons-May Building, just adjacent to the Hilton. 15/40 produced the event, where sumptuous drapery created a rich feel, and autumnal colors lent an atmosphere of warmth. Jackson Catering provided the food, and Michael Smith served as DJ.

W magazine hosted a new event on the Globes landscape, a party at the Chateau Marmont on Friday night. Caravents produced the event, where W revealed its February issue. Caravents blew up the cover, and placed it in an ornate white lacquer frame, hung residential-style on the wall. The cover art was the centerpiece of the interior room. DJ Michelle Pesce entertained a crowd including Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and the Coen brothers.

15/40 also produced Sony's party at the Hilton, where rich creams and chocolate browns created a luxe, residential look. The 15/40 team decked the rooftop area in black, white, and silver accents with black sheers, white Mongolian lamb pillows, black carpet, white Flokati rugs, and crystal lamps and chandeliers.

Sony hosted a highly exclusive party at a private residence in Brentwood on Saturday to celebrate its multiple nominations. Old-fashioned glamour and drama was the mandate for Benarroch Productions, which installed what seemed to be an extension of the estate over the pool grounds and added luxe furnishings and hundreds of crystal strands, and bathed the entire room in candlelight. Bonus: The structure was constructed of all sustainable materials, and is completely reusable.

Best Events produced the Relativity Media and Weinstein Company party at the Hilton, giving it a residential look and feel. Under two tents, the eclectic furnishings and decor came from HD Buttercup; the furniture retailer had never done event rentals, but approached Best about getting a start. Best designed the event with a built-in rain contingency. However, when the forecast called for clear weather, the team activated a different design, removing tent walls to create one open, free-flowing space.
